Hello,
Has anyone had any big jumps in their insurance premiums recently? I just received my premium notice from State Farm and it wend up $28 (for 6 months). Their reason given "is the claim experience on your make and model has gone up." That just seems a little high to me. I have had all my policies with them for a long time. No claims, no tickets, no late payments.

Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there any any insurance company that is recommended?
I have 2 cars and a home owners policy. Seems like someone would want the business.

Any advice/info is welcome.
Thanks a bunch,
Kristen

Currently with Travelers for my MINI, the wifes Sonata, and home. Haven't seen any rate increases yet, not to say there won't be though. I did recently talk to my insurance agent and he said that there are some shifts going on right now and a lot of the bigger insurance companies are revising premiums, so maybe that's what you are seeing.

Getting on my soapbox for a bit here, never liked State Farm. I've had issues in the past as has the wife so i can't really say anything good about them. In addition I've tried Geico, left because of ridiculous rate increases, and progressive, I liked them but they didn't offer home insurance and I needed that when I bought my house. So far I've had Travelers for about three years and have no complaints or issues.

Currently not too enthralled with State Farm either. Been with them for the last 9 years, no claims or accidents on my account. I had an unavoidable accident with a chunk of retread on the highway and now they want to raise my rate by an extra $20 a month. Not cool.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies.
Yep, I am wondering if this is industry wide myself. If so, seems like BMW (and other manufacturers affected) would want to step in. This could really hurt the sales once someone sees what insurance is going to run them.
I know what you mean Tremperj, that is not cool at all. I hope they do not stick you too with what they just handed me.
I guess I will shop around to see what others offer. If it is industry wide, it guess I will just have to choke it down.
Take it easy,
Kristen

Well, they did decide, in their infinite wisdom, that I should be charged for deciding to hit the retread instead of another vehicle or the divider. I think I am done with State Farm. Great to deal with, until you really need something. Its a competitive marketplace, they just shot themselves in the foot.

Wow, that really stinks. One would think that they would reward for a rational decision. Yep, that would lead me to dump them as well.
I have been doing the online quotes and so far Progressive is kicking butt; to the point is scares me. I can insure both cars for about $50 more than I am insuring just the Mini with SF. Same coverage amounts.
Planning to go out and talk to some agents next week. I just do not trust this all internet transaction setup. But I guess that is one way they keep prices down. Just wonder about the customer service.
Good Luck!

Definitely talk to reps, I've found that I generally get better coverage for the same amount if I talk to an actual person. Good luck!

Like I said, I had no qualms, until I actually used them. It was crazy cheap for a looooong time.
Gonna check out Progressive and Esurance.
Allstate bought out Esurance, so the coverage is pretty solid from what I hear.

I just got my policy for the next 6 months and it looks like it went down a few (4-6) dollars a month.  I'm with USAA.

Well just switched to Auto Owners Insurance. They specialize in drivers 50+. Met with an agent in Simpsonville. Same coverage and was able to insure both the Mini and my 94 BMW for what State Farm wanted just for the Mini. Hate to lose what I had built up over the years with SF, but could not turn away from the savings.
